Gracie Barra Scottsdale Open Positions

BarraFit Instructor

We are looking for fitness professionals, who are passionate about teaching, are great team builders, have excellent communication skills and are interested in taking part on the development of a martial arts inspired fitness program inside our school.

You will be joining a team of renowned martial artists, dedicated to your personal and professional growth, who will work alongside with you to build a world-class Fitness Programs at the  Gracie Barra Schools in the state of Arizona.

Position Type

Part Time Maximum of 20 Hours Per Week

Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Related Tasks

  • Teach Classes within the guidelines and principles of the Gracie Barra Method
  • Plan and develop routines, choose appropriate music and choreograph different movements fitting for each class
  • Arrive on time to prep, set-up and greet participants. Start and end class on time, as scheduled
  • Greet members warmly and enthusiastically and build rapport with participants. Answer questions and maintain a positive exercise experience
  • Foster an understanding of the Gracie Barra Culture among all students, instructors and the general public
  • Maintain a Stimulating, exciting and welcoming environment at the school
  • Dress appropriately and professionally and must wear approved official Gracie Barra uniform and equipment at all times when at the school and on the mat. Instructor’s official Gracie Barra uniform shall be clean and in good condition whenever worn.
  • Instructor shall conduct himself professionally at all times. The use of profanity is inappropriate and must not take place in the school at any time.
  • Store all equipment neatly and appropriately. Report any equipment or safety issues to the Group Fit Manager, Operations Manager and/or General Manager
  • Lead the class by performing the workout along with the participants who follow her/his lead, incorporating use of cuing, tempo and safe transitional movements from one exercise to another
  • Instruct group exercise format according to class schedule and adhering to company standard
  • Greet and encourage new participants and orient them to class
  • Educate participants on proper form, anatomy, contraindications and modification of moves when needed
  • Explain and enforce safety rules and proper usage of exercise equipment used during the class
  • Motivate participants and provide instruction in maintaining exertion levels in order to maximize benefits from the exercise routines
  • Monitor participation and make necessary adjustments when necessary

Administrative and Management Tasks

  • Take Part on Weekly Staff Meetings
  • Respond to internal communication messages within 1 business day
  • Pass on member concerns to the Chief Instructor when necessary
  • Project a professional image through dress, behavior and attitude toward responsibilities, fellow instructors, co-workers and members
  • Call absentee members to encourage them to attend more classes
  • Encourage long-term participation and member retention
  • Accurately and promptly record hours worked on attendance system
  • Secure substitute instructors for shifts that cannot be worked
  • Update the BarraFit Class Schedule periodically to stimulate growth of the program and better fit members needs
  • Enroll new members

Event and Class Promotion

  • Promote Classes and programs on Social Media and other appropriate channels
  • Develop relationships in the community to help promote the program
  • Keep School’s Social Media Channels Updated with Images from Classes and testimonials from members
  • Send email to BarraFit Members invinting for classes and events
  • Plan and coordinate special events to encourage more participation from members
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Instructor

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of safe exercise technique and principles and general understanding of human anatomy and kinesiology
  • Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cuing technique and rhythm
  • Must possess a highly sufficient degree of energy and endurance to complete each fitness class and must be physically fit to lead class at the appropriate level
  • Ability to deal with a diverse group of individuals
  • Ability to communicate and connect with people of all age groups and fitness levels
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate skills being taught to participants
  • Ability to provide clear instruction when needed Minimum

Certifications/Educational Level

  • Gracie Barra Instructor Certification Program
  • Experienced teaching group fitness class
  • Experience with Martial Arts
  • Additional training in specialty formats may be required
